Update: Pitt Co. deputies identify victim shot near Farmville on Saturday

FARMVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight shooting near Farmville.

Deputies say it happened shortly after 3 o’clock Saturday morning on Highway 258.

A spokeswoman with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Jasper Harris was walking down the highway, when a car pulled up along side him. Deputies aren’t sure if anyone got out, but do know multiple shots were fired.

Harris was shot at least one time, and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Harris said he didn’t know who shot him. Deputies said the only description given was that he was a black male with dreads.

WNCT was the only station on the scene of the shooting. Investigators said they recovered six shell casings near the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
