10th annual Back to School Fair held in Washington

WASHINGTON, N.C (WNCT) – The City of Washington held its 10th annual Back to School Fair Saturday.

Hundreds turned out to the Agape Health Center to pick up free school supplies.

Each book bag was filled with notebooks, erasers and pencils.

Thanks to local donations, there were also free dental and medical exams.

Local leaders with the Agape Community Health Center said they held the event to help community members in need.

“There are many parents that just doesn’t have the funds to purchase their back to school supplies and this is something that we can do as a community health center and as a church as one so that we can give back,” said Executive Director Michael McDuffie.

A Washington resident told WNCT the annual events brings the community together.

“Because everyone always calls us Little Washington, we may be little but we always try to help and look out for each other,” said Kathy Ebron.

Event organizers said bringing health professionals to this event brings awareness to staying healthy during school.
