Early morning Nags Head house fire displaces 37

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WNCT) – Thirty-seven people found themselves displaced early Tuesday morning after a fire affected two homes on South Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head.

That’s according to 9 On Your Side’s sister station, WAVY 10 On Your Side.

Emergency dispatchers got the call around 3:11 a.m.

One home was destroyed in the fire, but crews were able to protect other nearby homes from flames. However, one other home sustained damage to its siding.

Nags Head police officers helped 37 people evacuate from the two homes. Several units responded to the scene, battling the flames overnight; crews from Kill Devil Hills, Colington, Kitty Hawk, Roanoke Island, Manns Harbor and Southern Shores responded.

The Red Cross helped those displaced by the fire.

An investigation into what caused the fire is underway.
