RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – Three people in eastern Carolina are among 10 statewide named winners in The N.C. Education lottery’s Proud Moments in Education contest.
Each of the winners entered the contest by sharing stories of their “Proud Moments” and received $20,000.
Marvin Squires of Wilson: Proud Moment − daughter started school club dedicated to integrating special needs and traditional students.
Jeffrey O’Neil of Tarboro: Proud Moment – grandson, who is a paraplegic, crosses the stage for elementary school graduation.
Stephanie Ambrose of Elizabeth City: Proud Moment − nine-year-old son spearheads fund-raising efforts to improve school playground.
In the N.C. Proud Moments contest, the Education Lottery asked North Carolinians to share their proudest moments in education. It also asked them how they would use $20,000 to create more proud moments. The lottery said it received hundreds of moving responses. A panel of judges then chose 10 winners from the 100 entries that received the most votes.
A complete list of winners and a video featuring their stores are posted on the N.C. Proud Moments website, located at http://www.ncproudmoments.com/.
The contest marked the lottery’s 10th anniversary.
