Jacksonville adopts 3 year plan to boost tourism

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Jacksonville is looking to boost its tourism by becoming the most sought after location for military reunions.

It’s all part of a three-year plan adopted by the city tourism board Thursday.

President of the Chamber of Commerce Lauret Leagon said the city has considered the idea for the past several years as a way to build revenue, “We discovered that these military reunions don’t necessarily have to have a tie to Camp Lejeune or the air station. These reunions like to come to towns that are military friendly so that opened up a whole new world for us for other types of reunions for people who have never even been to Jacksonville.”

Leagon said the majority or the revenue will come from the area hotels.

And the city welcomes all military members for reunions, not just Marines.
