NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A former administrator of the Eastern Carolina Women’s Center, P.A., was arrested Tuesday on charges of embezzlement.
61-year-old Betty Small Hurley Mallard is accused of embezzling $893,157.41 from her employer over a span of 11 years.
District Attorney Scott Thomas said she turned herself in on Monday following notification of a grand jury indictment.
Mallard was charged with six felony counts of embezzlement dating from Sept. 2, 2005, to June 2, 2015.
She was released on a $250,000 unsecured bond.
The State Bureau of Investigation’s Financial Crimes Unit investigated the allegations by Mallard’s employer. Each count could carry a 6-8-year sentence if Mallard is convicted.
