President Obama commutes Kinston man’s prison sentence

WASHINGTON (WNCT) – President Obama has granted a commutation of sentences to 214 individuals.

And one of them is from eastern Carolina.

In just a matter of months, the prison sentence for a Kinston man will expire.

Ricky Darden’s sentence was commuted by the president Wednesday. Darden was sentenced in Maryland to life in prison in 1996 for trying to sell crack. His sentence will expire on December first.
