WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Beaufort County residents will soon be able to apply for a handgun online.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said the permits will go up on its website on Monday, August 15th. Applicants can find it under the Resource tab. It will cost $5.00 to purchase the permit, with a one-time $3.00 convenience fee.
Applicants will be notified by text or call to get the permit. A photo ID is required at the time of pick up.
“We are trying to streamline this process as much as possible and make it much more convenient for those requesting permits,” said Beaufort County Sheriff Ernie Coleman. “Right now our office can only receive permits during regular business hours. With this new process, permits can be applied for anytime day or night, holidays or weekends.”
Hard copies are still available for the next 30 days. After that, those without computer access can use the one set up in the Sheriff’s Office lobby.
