A Time For Science breaks ground on new observatory

GRIFTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Grifton’s A Time For Science broke ground on a new observatory.

The locally owned science facility is building an 11-foot high dome featuring a new telescope.

The $50,000 project will give you a closer look at space and things beyond our world.

It’s the first part of a new astronomy park, which will eventually feature a pier for you to bring your own telescope and another ‘naked eye’ observatory.

Director of Astronomy Brian Baker said the observatory is something everyone can use, “We really want this observatory to be a great way to get students of all ages to come out learn astronomy and just have a great experience that they wouldn’t really get anywhere else around here.”

The observatory is set to open at the end of September.
