Off-duty officer shoots on-duty detective in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, I.N. (WNCT) – An investigation is underway in Indianapolis after police said an off-duty officer shot an on-duty detective Friday night.

The detective was responding to a domestic incident between the off-duty officer and his estranged wife. When the detective arrived, the off-duty officer fired and hit him before driving off.

He was later found in Cincinnati, OH, early Saturday morning.

“Our suspect will be facing criminal charges, here in Indianapolis, once our investigation completes,” said a police spokesperson. “I don’t have those specific charges, we’ll work with the Prosecutor’s office. He will be immediately suspended, without pay, pending termination. Obviously, this is a very critical incident.”

The detective is expected to be okay. No one else was injured during the incident.

This marks the second Indianapolis officer shot this week.
