KINSTON, NC (WNCT)- After months of renovations, the makeover for an old rec center in Kinston is done.
What used to be a run-down dilapidated building now has a playground, basketball hoop, and plenty of space for the kids. Lovitt Hines off King Street is home to one of Kinston’s summer camps where dozens of kids spent their time each day. Kinston native Brenda Gray brought the need for repairs to the city council, who responded by funding the project.
Parks and Recreation director Bill Ellis says everyone is happy with the final result.
“I think it’s truly worth it for the neighborhood you know if we can save one or two kids it’s definitely worth it for everybody,” Bill Ellis said.
The center will remain open when the school year starts.
