Belhaven hospital on track to reopen

BELHAVEN, N.C. (WNCT) – The old Vidant Pungo hospital property in Belhaven is set to be sold a limited liability company.

Pantego Creek, LLC said on Friday that it is seeking its members to approve the transaction for the purchase and sale of the property to Strategic Healthcare of Florida, LLC. The option runs through September 30, 2016.

The hospital closed in the summer of 2014.

Mayor Adam O’Neal says the announcement “shows what hard work, prayers, and faith can do”.

“This is just another impossible hurdle cleared in the journey to reopen the hospital,” said O’Neal.

The mayor said the group plans to reopen the hospital with the emergency room and hospital beds with a focus veterans care.
