North Lenoir HS football player shot near Kinston church released from hospital

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Lenoir County football player gives the “all okay” on social media, after falling victim to a shooting.

It happened Tuesday afternoon in northwest Kinston. The call came in around 4:43 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 18-year-old Stephon Jerrell Swinson with apparent gunshot wounds to his left arm. He told them he was driving westbound on Carey Road while turning right onto Rouse Road, a silver car pulled up beside him and someone started shooting. Swinson said there were 4 black males in the suspect vehicle.

Swinson was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital for treatment and released. He’s a senior football player for North Lenoir High School.
