13-year-old struck, killed when bike collides with car

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WNCT) – The Highway Patrol said Tuesday a 13-year-old boy died after his bike collided with a car in Onslow County.

Troopers responded to Murrill Hill Road Monday evening just before 7.

They said 13-year-old Dyrae Shepard was riding his bike with friends when he turned left on the road and was struck by a 2014 Kia Forte.

23-year-old Jakeem T. Simmons was driving that car, according to Highway Patrol.

Shephard was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There are no charges filed against Simmons at this time.
