Traffic changes coming to Heritage Street in Kinston

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Changes are coming to a busy intersection in Kinston. The Department of Transportation is adding a turning arrow to North and South traffic on Herritage Street turning on Vernon Avenue.

The way it is now, with only a green light and no arrow causes major backups. Kinston Mayor BJ Murphy says there will be more construction cones around Kinston in the future.

“It can be annoying at times, but the truth is, it can be a great growing pain for eastern North Carolina. We are happy to see orange cones because once that project is done, there will be more mobility, more traffic, more economic progress because of it,” Murphy explained.

Murphy says DOT is still working to figure out when the signal will be ready for use.
