New route from GTP to Highway 11 moving forward

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A new route going from Kinston’s Global Transpark area straight to Highway 11 on a 70 mile per hour road is moving forward.

The state DOT says it selected a route preference this week.

The parkway ends at Highway 58 now at the Global Transpark. With this route, it will go track closer to Humphrey Road and then end at Highway 11 near Grainger Station Road, right past Sharon Church Road.

You could be riding on this by 2020 if other agencies sign-off on their review of the route.

The commissioner says it could wrap up at the same time as the Greenville southwest bypass 9 On Your Side reported on Tuesday.

There’s work happening now in the area to revamp a crossroads.

Commuters from Kinston to Greenville are dealing this week with some construction detours at the high-traffic intersection of Highway 11 and Ferrell Road.

That’s near Contentnea Savannah School where you need to cross railroad tracks to get onto 11.
