Two men rescued from Bogue Inlet after their boat capsizes

Coast Guard pulls two men from Bogue Inlet after their boat capsizes.

BOUGE INLET, N.C. (WNCT) –  The Coast Guard rescued two boaters after their 22-foot Sea Hawk’s outboard failed. It happened Saturday morning, shortly after 9:30 a.m. on July 16.

Don Midgett and Timothy Rollins only had enough time to grab their life jackets before jumping into the water. Choppy waters and 15-knot winds made it difficult for the boaters to safely navigate the waters.

A bystander contacted the U.S. Coast Guard Emerald Isle.  It only took the four crew members about 20 minutes to reach the scene. They were able to pull both men to safety. The rescue crews transported them back to station, where Midgett and Rollins were evaluated by emergency medical services team. They were shaken and in shock, but otherwise in good health.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Tyler McGuinness said the entire crew worked hard and said their routine practices, helped for a speedy and successfult rescue. “If they hadn’t managed to grab their life jackets, and if we hadn’t been able to respond so quickly, it might not have gone so well,” McGuinness said. “But we got the outcome we wanted. The whole crew was stoked.”
