Jacksonville man accused of raping mentally disabled victim

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies have arrested a man for raping a person who, at the time, was a minor.

That’s according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

47-year-old Benjamin Lee Ohara of Jacksonville was arrested Monday after an investigation of rape was concluded. He’s accused of sexually molesting someone with a mental disability over the course of several years. Law enforcement learned of the accusations in November. The allegations were investigated by deputies with assistance from the Child Advocacy Center and the Dept. of Social Services Adult Protection Agency.

Ohara was charged with 16 Counts of 2nd Degree Rape, 16 Counts of Other Sex Crimes, and 16 Counts of Crime Against Nature. He was remanded into the Onslow County Detention Center under a $2,000,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday.
