Greenville Police seize five firearms in the first month of Gun Reduction Unit

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Greenville Police Department has confiscated five illegal firearms since the launch of the new Gun Reduction Unit about three weeks ago. Three of the firearms were recovered in the last week.

Kelani Lewis is now facing charges after officers stopped him for questioning and found him with a .22 caliber handgun on July 14. Lewis told officers he found the gun. He now faces charges for carrying a concealed gun and resisting an officer.

On the same night, Willie Smallwood was arrested when officers found him in possession of a gun. Smallwood is a convicted felon with a rap sheet that includes accessory to murder and armed robbery. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed gun.

Earlier this week, when officers pulled over a car in Uptown Greenville, they noticed passengers in the vehicle attempting to hide a gun. One of the passengers, Devon Montreal Davis, is a convicted felon and was charged. Another passenger, Jaquavius Howard provided a false name and was charged for resisting an officer.
