WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Pitt County Post 39 captured the American Legion Area 1 Eastern title after Game 3 of the best-of-five-game series against Wayne County Post 11 was called due to rain.
League rules cite that the series had to be finished by Sunday at 11:59 p.m., and because the teams could not play three games in one day, Pitt was deemed champions, thanks to winning the first two games of the series.
Pitt County Post 39 advances to the American Legion State tournament for the first time since 2012.
Post 39 will play the Area 1 Western champion on Monday at Pitt Community College. The game is just for seeding for the state tournament, which starts Friday in Wingate, N.C.
