WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) — Dad jokes took over Twitter on Thursday afternoon as news broke of Mike Pence being tapped as Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick.

Indiana’s governor, a well-respected social conservative in GOP circles, is reportedly slated to serve as the presumptive Republican nominee’s 2016 running mate.

The Indy Star headline read “Trump picks Pence as running mate.” The New York Times said Trump showed “strong signs” of choosing Pence. And MSNBC’s on-screen graphic said Trump “could” select Pence.

While Twitter buzzed, Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, pumped the brakes online.

The news will be made official Friday morning at 11 a.m.

Reports also suggest that Trump and Pence will sit down on Sunday evening with 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl.
