NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – An old hotel in New Bern won’t be standing for much longer.
The former Days Inn hotel sat empty for years on Broad Street. The current owners haven’t done anything with the property and its now an eyesore.
The city of New Bern agreed to demolish the building in the upcoming months. Jeff Ruggieri, director of development services, said it’s a disappointment.
“I wish we would of worked with a responsible owner who was willing to work with the community and put some effort and investment back into our city instead of sitting there will a derelict building,” said Ruggieri.
He also said after the building is torn down, there will be a lien on the property. Currently, the owners face over $30,000 in fines.
