Bethel Police: Man arrested for assaulting 97-year-old woman

BETHEL, N.C. (WNCT) – A Bethel man faces several charges after police say he assaulted and stole 97-year-old woman’s purse.

It happened on Wednesday morning around one o’clock.

Bethel Police said officers were called to a home on Moore Drive for a break-in. When officers arrived, the victim, a 97-year-old woman, said a man broke into her home, assaulted her, and stole her purse.

During the course of the investigation, police identified the suspect as Dietrich Purvis. Purvis was later charged and arrested.

Purvis faces multiple burglary and larceny charges. He was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center and given a $200,000 bond.

Purvis’ next court appearance is scheduled for Sept 9th.
