ECU’s new chancellor addresses freshman class

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – ECU’s new chancellor was out and about on campus Thursday morning.

Dr. Cecil Staton addressed ECU’s freshman class at their orientation.

Pirate nation’s new leader shook dozens of hands and spoke to a number of families. He told the students and their families he’s in his freshman year as well and they will go through everything together.

Dr. Staton said he wants to move ECU forward during his time in Greenville.

WNCT’s Zora Stephenson spoke to the chancellor about his plans for the university.

“I really believe in the power of higher education to change lives and through changing lives, we change the world and that’s what ECU is about. I want them to have a great experience and a great freshman year, and I count on having a good one too,” Staton said.

Staton plans to have weekly office hours and an open dialogue with students.
