Tips to keep your child safe on hot playground equipment

Osborn Park

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Hot playground equipment sends children to the hospital every year.

Metal and plastic can reach triple digits when the sun is out. One parent reported a burn when it was only 74-degrees outside.

Parents should watch out for dark plastics or rubbers. A parent from the area said people should look for playgrounds with shaded areas.

“It’s really hard to find places like this where it has like a tarp on top of it, so it protects it from the sun. I think that’s really smart,” said Grasiela Ruiz, a parent.

Parents should watch out for un-coated metal. Slides, swings and other equipment children sit on tend to be very hot. It’s always best to test a play area before children are let loose.
