Victim identified in Farmville shooting

FARMVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – One person was taken to a Vidant Medical Center via ambulance Tuesday evening after being shot.

It happened along the 3900 block of Cobb Dail Road near Farmville in Pitt County.

WNCT 9 On Your Side was the first crew on scene, as deputies roped off the crime scene and used dogs to help search the area. Neighbors said a man, now identified as 37-year-old Corry Shonta Atkins, came to them and said he was shot. They saw blood and called 911 around 5:40 p.m.

Family members of Atkins were at the scene but didn’t want to make a comment. The condition Atkins is still unknown.

Deputies said there isn’t a threat to the community, and that the victim had told them someone shot him.
