Greenville man dead after July 4th crash; charges pending against teen daughter

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A Greenville man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on the July 4th.

47-year-old Joseph Lantz died in the crash, which happened just before 10 a.m. on U.S. 17 North near Antioch Road in Craven County.

State Highway Patrol said 16-year-old Alexis Lantz, the man’s daughter, was at the wheel of a 2002 Dodge pickup truck when it happened. She was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, suffering from serious leg injuries. Two other passengers, a 12-year-old and 13-year-old, were taken to Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern with non-life threatening injuries.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, but the investigation is still underway.

Highway Patrol said charges are pending notification of District Attorney Scott Thomas.
