Coast Guard rescues 2 near Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued two people and their dog after their boat began taking on water near Wrightsville Beach.

The Coast Guard said in a news release that the station in Wilmington received a cellphone call from a mother and her son on a 19-foot skiff around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Coast Guard sent a boat from Wrightsville Beach to the skiff about two miles east of New Topsail Inlet. The crew had trouble finding the boat because of a lack of radio contact. The skiff was found about six miles east of the inlet shortly before 4 p.m.

The Coast Guard took the people and the dog to Wrightsville Beach about 7 p.m. They were in good condition.

A crew was able to tow the skiff to Wilmington.
