GREENVILLE, N.C. (ECU Media Relations) – After closing out the 2016 season with a 38-23-1 record, which included its fourth Super Regional appearance since 2001, the East Carolina baseball team garnered a top 16 national ranking in five major polls.

The Pirates, who won the Charlottesville Regional, were ranked No. 15 in the Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) polls. They also jumped to No. 16 in the D1Baseball and USA Today/Coaches polls following their first-ever Super Regional win against No. 5 National Seed Texas Tech.

This week’s rankings mark the fifth time in program history that ECU was ranked in the final polls following the 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2009 season. It is also the 15th time that the Pirates were ranked in the final polls and first since 2011.
