TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have caught a bear that wound up in the yard of a home near Adventure Island.
The bear was captured after it was tranquilized and fell out of a tree.
Tampa Police officers had been chasing the bear.
The bear, estimated at about 6-feet tall, was first spotted by a Tampa Police officer at about 5:30 a.m. The officer was responding to an unrelated call when he saw a large animal running by. At first he wasn’t sure if it was a bear or a very large dog. He determined that it was a bear and attempted to follow it.
It’s unclear where the bear came from. There are no reports of the bear disturbing anything.
A Busch Gardens spokesperson said that the bear did not escape from Busch Gardens, which is nearby. Busch Gardens crews help capture the bear. The spokesperson said the bear will be relocated to its natural habitat.
