Onslow County Sheriff’s Office warns of jury duty scam

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- Onslow County officials have been informed residents were recently targeted in a phone call scam involving jury duty.

Residents are receiving phone calls regarding jury duty and the scammers are requesting personal and financial information.

These calls are scams. The clerk of court and sheriff’s office do not call or e-mail for a jury duty summons to collect money or ask for personal information.

Unsolicited e-mail that appears to be from a court official requesting personal information or to click on a link should be ignored and deleted, as they are a scam.

Do not give out any such information over the phone of by e-mail. Court staff and the sheriff’s office will never contact citizens by phone or e-mail and ask for money or any sensitive personal or financial information, such as Social Security or credit card numbers.

The public is encouraged to report any similar calls or e-mails to their local county sheriff’s office.
