Deputies: Peletier man charged in domestic shooting

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – A Peletier man has been charged in a Sunday morning domestic shooting.

Deputies arrested 37-year-old William Byron Mitchell and charged him with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury. His arrest follows deputies responding to his home on Little Kinston Rd around 2 a.m. Sunday, where they found his 32-year-old girlfriend, Nicole Blevins, shot in the face with a 9mm handgun. She was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where she’s currently listed in stable condition.

Mitchell was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $150,000 bond. His first court appearance was Monday, where he was assigned the public defender’s office to represent him.

The case is still under investigation.
