Vanceboro woman charged in fatal New Bern stabbing

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A man is dead after a Sunday evening stabbing.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on West Pleasant Hill Drive. That’s near the intersection of N.C. 55 and Washington Post Road.

Police found Maurice Whitehead unconscious with a stab wound to the chest. Whitehead was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services for treatment of his injuries. He later died.

Officers arrested 25-year-old Ryesha Lovick of Vanceboro and charged her with one open count of murder and is being held in the Craven County Jail under no bond.

There’s no word on a motive for the stabbing.
