SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WNCT) – A controversial raffle moves forward in Southport, NC despite some calling for the prize to be changed.
The Southport Fire Chief said they will move forward with the raffle, keeping the AR-15 assault rifle as one of the prizes.
The assault rifle has become the center of national debate, as it has been used in several mass shootings around the country, including the recent massacre in Orlando.
The fire chief said the raffle was organized months ago, and that they will comply with all state and federal gun laws.
On top of that, the winner will have to pass a full background check before claiming the prize.
