Man arrested for Kinston arson

KINSTON, NC (WNCT) – Police arrested a man in a late Friday night arson.

Kinston Fire & Rescue responded to 804 McCaskill Drive for the structure fire, with a report of an explosion. The structure was fully involved when they arrived. Back-up was called in due to the size of the fire. 13 firefighters assisted in containment, which took approximately 20 minutes. Crews remained at the scene for over two hours.

One woman is believed to have been inside the home when the fire started, but she was not injured. The home was deemed a total loss.

After preliminary investigations, Kinston Fire & Rescue Chief Don Crawford said the fire was intentionally set.

Officers arrested Nathaniel Webb, Jr. for the incident and charged him with Attempted Murder and 1st Degree Arson. The investigation showed Webb set fire to an LP cylinder on the back porch of the residence.  He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
