Craven County opens entrepreneur center in New Bern

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – In the next few months, small business owners in Craven County will have access to more resources and programs to make their businesses more successful.

“It’s incredibly difficult to start a business,” said Sara Baxter, who knows all too well about the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making a business successful. “It’s really hard to raise the capital and find a good spot that you can afford to do anything.”

Craven County Economic Development Director Timothy Downs and a group of people decided to open an entrepreneur center called The Cube in New Bern.

“There are already a lot of entrepreneurs but there are a lot of entrepreneurs that don’t have access to all of the resources, so we are going to make it easier for them,” said Downs.

Volunteers spent most of Saturday morning cleaning up the new center.

The building is owned by the county and hasn’t been occupied for over 5 years. Officials hope to rent rooms to small business owners for a low fee and provide resources to make their business successful.

The center is expected to open by September.
