GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – You may have heard of Relay For Life, but have you heard of Bark For Life?
The event took place in Greenville Saturday, and organizers hope to make it an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Instead of just humans getting together to raise money for cancer research, dogs also got the chance to join in. About 50 dogs attended the event, which included a kissing booth thanks to one happy pup!
Organizers didn’t know what to expect when planning the event but said they were pleased.
“Pound puppies raised about $900, so we are probably the two of us, probably over $2,000 raised and going,” said Ann McClung, one of the organizers.
Cancer research and the love of dogs was something planners of the event thought would bring people together for a common cause.
There was also a beauty pageant for the dogs, with prizes given away in categories like best dressed, wildest hair-do, and even an owner/dog look-alike contest.
Organizers said they are hoping to make the event even bigger next year.
