Jacksonville man arrested for embezzlement of sports league

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Keith Ryan Sutton, 37, was arrested for several charges of embezzlement after he stole money from a sports league he volunteered for.

According to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, Sutton allegedly stole thousands of dollars from several athletic leagues in Onslow County. He was the president of the Southwest Athletic League, Southwest Onslow Basketball League and the Southwest Youth Football Association.

Sutton is accused of writing several checks to Piggly Wiggly, made out to himself, while using the Richlands Recreational Football Association’s bank account.

Officials arrested Sutton on May 31 and his first court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday.
