Man charged with helping friend hide body of teacher

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police say a 32-year-old man has been charged with helping hide the body of a Charlotte teacher who disappeared two years ago.

Detectives said Lawrence Briscoe was arrested Friday, a day after Angelo Smith pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges in the strangulation of his 31-year-old girlfriend Bianca Tanner in June 2014.

Briscoe was taken into custody in Lancaster County. South Carolina, and is charged with felony concealment of a death. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.

A judge sentenced 32-year-old Smith to 19 years to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Thursday.

Smith says he killed Tanner after the two argued over a text message.
