Belhaven hospital supporters to hold march

BELHAVEN, N.C. (AP) — Supporters of a hospital in Belhaven are holding a march as they continue to push for the reopening of the facility, which closed almost two years ago.

A news release says the march will start Saturday morning at Lookout Tent City, where supporters of the former Vidant Pungo Hospital stand guard around the clock in case anyone tries to bulldoze the building. Supporters say they hope to pressure four managers of Pantego Creek LLC to transfer the hospital to the town of Belhaven.

An attorney who represents Pantego Creek told The Daily Reflector of Greenville that demolition is an option, but there are no plans for that now.

Vidant Health closed the facility because it said it totaled losses of more than $2 million in its two years of ownership.
