SOUTHPORT, N.C. (AP) — A Southport company wants to offer helicopter tours from Carolina Beach this summer.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports (http://bit.ly/1XQYezR) High Tide Helicopters wants to fly out of Carolina Beach a couple of times per week.

High Tide has been operating from the Cape Fear Regional Jetport in Southport for three years.

Owner Jessica Ward says she thinks the tours would draw people to the beach.

Ward says High Tide currently attracts mostly families that want to see southeastern North Carolina from a unique perspective.

But some Carolina Beach residents complained about possible noise and safety issues at a Carolina Beach Town Council meeting this month.

Ward says her helicopter has flown past Carolina Beach for a couple of years without any complaints.

She has not yet applied for a permit.
