Kinston man charged with 3 counts felony child abuse

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Police have arrested a man on felony child abuse charges.

The Kinston Department of Public Safety said in a news release that its officers responded to Lenoir Memorial Hospital on Tuesday about a report of possible child abuse. That’s where they found the 3-year-old female’s mother, Megumi Shimizu, who had taken the child to the hospital. The child was later transferred to Vidant Medical Center to be treated for extensive injuries.

After an investigation, officers obtained warrants on 35-year-old Jackie Quoc Chung, a male friend of the mother. He was arrested on Friday in Washington, N.C. and charged with 3 counts of Felony Child Abuse/Serious Bodily Injury, 3 counts of Felony Assault with Bodily Injury, and 3 Counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.

Chung was confined to the Lenoir County Jail under a $1.6 million secured bond.
