Suspect robs Elizabeth City bank at gunpoint

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WNCT) – Police are investigating after a man walked into an Elizabeth City bank and robbed it at gunpoint.

It happened Wednesday morning just after 10 a.m. at the Select Bank & Trust located at 416 S. Hughes Blvd.

Witnesses told officers responding at the scene that a lone suspect entered the bank with a mask and handgun and demanded money. The suspect was last seeing fleeing the scene on foot toward El Cinoca Dr.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, about 5’10 to 6’02, and weighing between 190 and 220 lbs. He appeared to be wearing a navy coat with a hood and a light colored emblem on the left chest, a hooded sweatshirt underneath of the coat, black pants, black shoes and carrying a black duffle bag with a blue or teal stripe. He was last seen getting into a black Mercedes sedan with tinted windows. The vehicle has a large Mercedes decal in the back window.
