New Bern officials urge folks to use Code Red system for emergency updates

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Keeping up with hurricane season preps is the City of New Bern which wants its citizens to to use the Code Red System.

It alerts subscribers to emergencies in their area.

Robert Boyd, New Bern Fire Chief, said the key to safety and survival in a storm is always being prepared, “Everything you can do to prepare yourself from whatever storm, this is just another tool to have in the too box and the more tools we have the better we will have an end result.”

The alerts are sent out via text or phone call and the Code Red System is free. Citizens can sign up on the city website or download the app with the simple touch of a button.
