Officials reached out on social media to spread the word about the missing animal, saying, “We need your help. This afternoon someone walked into the SPCA Pet Adoption Center and stole ‘Rowan,’ a 2-month-old Labrador Retriever mix puppy. He has a little white patch on his chest, and rear toes.”

They added a photo of the dog.

The social media post asked for anyone who knew anyRathing to reach out to the Garner Police.

Shelter volunteers and staff were able to provide investigators with a description of the truck involved. They say it had Florida plates.

The Facebook post was shared nearly 3,000 times.

Hours later, the search was over.

Another post by the SPCA announced, “The puppy is SAFE tonight!” and continued, “A staff person was leaving the SPCA parking lot and spotted the suspect’s truck drop the puppy (inside a carrier) out the door before it sped off.”

“We have no idea how this happened, how he was able to get away without anybody noticing because we are very alert and we pride ourselves on being able to be responsible for our pets,” said Darci Vanderslik, with the SPCA.

While it is still not known who took the dog, there is a happy ending for the Rowan.

Rowan was adopted Tuesday and his new owners are very happy to have him safe and sound.

Rowan has a microchip, which could come in handy if he’s ever lost and found again.

“We have nothing but amazing things to say about our community for helping to spread the word about this puppy and helping us get this puppy back safely to the SPCA,” said Vanderslik.
