Woman’s body, critically injured boy found at Asheville park

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a young woman has been found dead and a young child critically injured near a playground at an Asheville park.

Police told media outlets that a jogger found the body around 6:20 a.m. Thursday at Jones Park.

Investigators are not releasing the woman’s name or how she might have died. They also haven’t released her relationship with the boy, who appeared to be between age 4 and 6.

Police say the child is in critical condition at Mission Hospital.

Teachers at a nearby elementary school are keeping the children inside for recess as police investigate.
