Habitat For Humanity hosts “National Women Build Week”

NEW BERN, N.C.- Habitat For Humanity is trying to raise awareness about home ownership challenges in America.

In an effort to get the word out, it hosts “National Women Build Week” every year. Women are encouraged to devote one day to help families build strength and stability through housing.

Saturday in Craven County, a number of people, including men, worked to paint a house. Even the future homeowner participated. Organizers hope this week makes a difference.

Deeodra Durocher with Habitat For Humanity explained the reason behind the day. “To be involved with issues of affordable housing and to really recognize the kinds of impact that shelter has on a family.”

“I feel like I’m someone really special that Habitat has chosen me to help be a homeowner,” future Homeowner Julia McGriff said. McGriff and her son should be able to move into their new home by the end of June.
