Greenville dedicates park in honor of a notable author

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – On Saturday, community members dedicated a park in Greenville to honor Beatrice Maye.

Maye was an author, educator and community activist in Pitt county.

The park is located on the corner of Farmville Boulevard and Davenport Street.

Maye’s daughter, Mamie Bryan, says that she hopes people will stop by to enjoy a book in her mother’s memory.

“Mom was a devout reader and enjoyed it so much, she wrote three books in her lifetime as well. and I’m hopeful that people will browse through the park and have an opportunity to just sit down, enjoy the atmosphere, and read a book,” said Bryan.

Maye’s daughter said it’s important to read and hopes more parents will take their children to the park.
