GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Superblock in Uptown Greenville is a finalist in a Great Places in North Carolina competition.
The Superblock is competing for the People’s Choice: Great Historic Rehabilitation title.
It is one of six finalists in this category which includes other historic rehabilitation projects which provide economic development and community building, while respecting traditional building practices and town planning.
Uptown Greenville’s entry states:
The Superblock project represents the incredible success of Greenville’s first public-public-private partnership. This collaboration hinged on an interested city, the support of ECU, and a dedicated non-profit willing to come up with creative and innovative solutions. The University’s support as the lessee for the largest of the properties provided the security investors needed to back this risky venture. Every space had a signed lease before construction was completed, showing an enormous support from local businesses as well as demand for historic, sustainably designed spaces. This has resulted in a dramatic change to a historic block and seven new businesses downtown.
You can vote once a day until Friday, May 13 at 5pm. Click here to vote for the Superblock.
The contest is sponsored by the American Planning Association North Carolina Chapter.
