Local teachers to take STEM summer internships

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A select number of teachers will spend part of the summer learning about the careers their students might eventually have.

The Kenan Fellows Program for Curriculum and Leadership Development announced on Tuesday its fellowship awards. It picked 41 applicants out of a field of more than 130.

Greene County is sending four teachers. They are Phil Cook of Greene County Intermediate School, Samantha Haislip of Greene County Middle School, Keshia Speight of West Greene Elementary School and Heather Waddell of Snow Hill Primary School.

Duplin County is the only other county in the WNCT viewing area to send teachers. The district will also send four.

The fellows will spend three weeks of their summer internship to learn with STEM-field experts.
